The detailed map of Italy you find here is actually included within a photograph of Italy seen from the satellite. I chose this image because I like the colors very much, especially the blue background created by the sea that surrounds all the peninsula, so nicely laid down right in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, its natural border. Its other natural border, where Italy joins the continent, is formed by the Alps mountain range (click on Map or Hybrid to see place names).
It's easy to understand why, over the centuries, Italy has been the destination of visitors coming from all places, and still is!

Change the map view
The Satellite view is like a physical map. If you wish you can change view, there are two more types.
Click on Map to view a political map of Italy, to view the names of places, roads and regional borders (with dashed lines), or click Hybrid to get the Satellite view together with place names.
If you wish a more detailed map of Italy, click on + to zoom in. If you wish a less detailed map of Italy, click on - to zoom out.
Then you can drag and center again the map: click on one of the arrows (upwards, downwards, right and left). Just do some tests!
The red mark indicates where Rome is, the capital city of Italy.
Italy's neighbors
From left to right, the "neighbors" bordering with Italy (click on the Map label to see their names) are France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. Other neighbors around Italy, although separated by the sea, are Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Malta, Lybia (a bit further away), Tunisia, Algeria and Balearic islands belonging to Spain, on the left.
Of the two big islands at the left of Italy, the lower one is Sardinia and belongs to Italy.
The other one is Corsica and belongs to France. Italy has also another big island (and many small ones too), it's Sicily, low in the map, with a nice triangular shape.
Search the map of Italy
And it's not all! Look at the picture bottom, on the left hand, can you see Powered by Google written there? click on it and you'll be able to find any place in Italy. In the search box, type the name of the place you want, then the city name and press your Enter key or the Search addresses button (if you can see it).
If you want to see where a church or famous building is, you have to type its name in Italian, for example "Duomo, Milano" (not "cattedrale"), otherwise you'll get many other things that contain the word cattedrale (although Google is getting better and better at this).
You can also print the whole map of Italy or part of it, send it via e-mail to a friend or to yourself, find your favorite restaurant or theater or any other thing and get road indications to get there from your home or hotel or to organise a journey.
These maps are really wonderful, they can be very detailed and you can find many things you need. Click on regions of Italy with their names and borders if you want to see a clear drawing.
